Maleea Acker is currently a Teaching Faculty member at Thompson Rivers University, focusing on the Literature of the Environment, while also serving as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Environment and Climate Change Canada, developing nature-based climate solutions for water sustainability in rural and Indigenous communities. Acker has extensive experience as a Continuing Sessional Lecturer at the University of Victoria since 2016, teaching various geography and Canadian studies courses. As an English/Creative Writing Instructor at Camosun College since 2006, Acker has taught introductory literary genres and writing. In addition to an established role as Creative Director at L'Estany Arts, which has garnered awards, Acker has worked as a freelance environmental journalist contributing to Focus Magazine and held previous positions in communications and direction for organizations like Veterinarians without Borders and the Capital Regional District. Acker holds a PhD in Human and Cultural Geography, an MA in Literature, and an MFA in Writing from the University of Victoria, along with a Low Residency Research Program in Philosophy, Poetics, and Environmental Thought.
