Kogila Balakrishnan has a wealth of work experience in various universities and government departments. Kogila started their career as a Research Fellow at Cranfield University, where they conducted research in defense acquisition and performance management. Kogila also worked on teaching, business development, and marketing for the university.
Following that, Kogila took on the role of Under Secretary at the Ministry of Defense Malaysia, where they served from 2009 to 2011.
Kogila then became an Adjunct Professor at the Malaysian National Defense University, where they contributed to defense, security, and technology development in Malaysia.
In 2010, they joined Cranfield University as a Visiting Fellow, contributing to teaching and collaborative partnerships in the industrial and technological field.
From 2011 to 2015, Kogila served as the Director of Client and Business Development for South East Asia at the University of Warwick, focusing on industrial and technology development with policy impact and providing research, education, and advisory services. Lastly, they held the position of Principal Fellow at Warwick University, where they developed research and development programs for the defense and aerospace industry sector and provided advisory services on offsets, collaboration, and technology transfer matters.
Kogila Balakrishnan holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Technology Policy and Offsets from Cranfield University, which was completed from 2004 to 2007. Kogila also obtained a Master's Degree in Strategy and Diplomacy from the Malaysian National University between 2001 and 2002. In 1999, they graduated from the University of London with a Bachelor's Degree in Law. Additionally, they attended the National Institute of Public Administration Malaysia (INTAN) from 1993 to 1994, earning a degree in the National Institute of Public Administration. Kogila Balakrishnan also holds a Bachelor's Degree in History from the University of Malaya, which they completed from 1989 to 1992. Currently, they are pursuing military and strategic leadership studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, United States.
