Thomas Gallagher is an accomplished medical professional with extensive experience in patient care quality, safety, and value. Currently serving as the Executive Director of the Collaborative for Accountability and Improvement since July 2015, Gallagher leads a coalition focused on improving the management of patient harm from medical care. In addition, Gallagher holds prominent roles as President of the Society of General Internal Medicine since April 2017 and as Associate Chair of Medicine for Patient Care Quality, Safety, and Value at the University of Washington, where also serves as Director of the UW Medicine Center for Scholarship in Patient Care Quality and Safety and Director of the Program in Hospital Medicine. Gallagher has been a Professor of Medicine, Bioethics & Humanities at the University of Washington School of Medicine since 2002. Gallagher earned an MD from Harvard Medical School (1990) and a BA in Religion from Carleton College (1986).
