David Broster

Head of School, Art at University of Worcester

David Broster's background is in both university teaching and professional practice in theatre, television, film and radio, in which fields he worked for ten years as a director, writer and actor. His teaching reflects this broad experience and he works across the disciplines of Drama, Film and Screenwriting.

He was formerly External Examiner for BA (Hons) Performing Arts at the University of Chichester and is currently External Examiner for a new Masters programme in Theatre for Young Audiences at Rose Bruford College, London. His research interests are predominantly in theatre and film for young people. He has presented at relevant academic conferences regionally, nationally and in mainland Europe and South America, exploring such issues as the value of theatre and drama in an educational context, children's interaction with live theatre and ideology, and the aesthetics of theatre for young audiences.

Recently published work includes From the Magic Carpet to the Kitchen Sink and Reflections through a Looking Glass, both through ASSITEJ. He is currently developing a book on Children's Film, and a Critical Reader for Screenwriting. David is a member of professional organisations including British Actors Equity Association, Directors Guild of Great Britain, Writers Guild of Great Britain, ASSITEJ (International Association for Theatre for Children and Young People) and ITYARN (International Theatre for Young Audiences Research Network).
