Gabrielle Siegert

Gabriele Siegert was born in Augsburg in 1963. After studying economics and social sciences and completing her dissertation at the University of Augsburg, she worked at the Universities of Salzburg and Jena and at the University of Music and Theater in Hanover, among others. In 2001 she habilitated at the University of Salzburg and became a full professor of journalism with a focus on media economics at the UZH. From 2005 to 2009 she was President of the Swiss Society for Communication and Media Studies, from 2009 to 2013 Director of the Institute for Communication and Media Research (IPMZ) at the UZH and from 2008 to 2012 Vice Dean for Research at the Philosophical Faculty. From February to July 2020 she headed the university as rector ad interim.

Her research and teaching focuses on media economics, media brands and advertising. From 2013 to 2017, as a member of the Federal Media Commission (EMEK), Gabriele Siegert advised the Federal Council and authorities on media and the development of social communication. From 2011 to 2017 she also chaired the Foundation for Scientific Research at the University of Zurich.
