Muhwezi Augustin

Chief Of Party, Usaid/uganda Health Activity at URC

Muhwezi Augustin has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Muhwezi currently holds the role of Chief of Party for the USAID/Uganda Health Activity at University Research Co., LLC (URC) & Center for Human Services (CHS), a position they have held since January 2023. In this role, they provide overall strategic direction and technical oversight for a large-scale USAID-funded project focused on integrated healthcare in Uganda.

Prior to their current role, Augustin served as the Chief of Party for the USAID's RHITES-EC project from February 2020 to January 2023. In this capacity, they managed a multi-disciplinary team and consortium members, liaised with USAID and other stakeholders, and ensured successful program implementation.

Before joining URC & CHS, Augustin worked as the Chief of Party for the USAID SUSTAIN project at URC. During their tenure from January 2015 to present, they oversaw all technical and management functions, collaborated with partners and stakeholders, and supervised senior management teams.

Earlier in their career, Augustin held various leadership positions at URC, including Deputy Chief of Party and Health Systems Strengthening Technical Advisor, where they played a crucial role in achieving integrated service delivery and capacity development.

Muhwezi also worked at the Joint Clinical Research center as a Senior Medical Officer/Project Coordinator, providing comprehensive care for HIV/AIDS patients and coordinating clinical trials. Additionally, they served as a Medical Officer and Deputy District Director of Health Services at Ibanda Hospital, where they initiated programs to provide free or subsidized services to vulnerable patients and promoted healthy lifestyle practices.

Augustin began their medical career as an Intern Doctor at the Ministry of Health in Uganda in 1998.

Overall, Muhwezi Augustin brings a wealth of experience in managing large-scale health projects, overseeing technical implementation, and fostering collaboration and partnership for improved healthcare service delivery.

Muhwezi Augustin pursued a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree at Mbarara University of Science & Technology from 1993 to 1998. Following this, they attended Makerere University from 2001 to 2003, where they completed a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a focus on Public Health.
