Michael Barfield is an experienced vascular surgeon and educator, currently serving as an Associate Professor of Surgery at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center and a vascular surgeon at University Surgical Associates since June 2022. Previously, Michael held various leadership roles in vascular surgery, including Section Chief and Associate Section Chief at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs from August 2018 to May 2022, and Assistant Professor of Surgery at NYU Langone Health from August 2016 to May 2022. Michael’s extensive training includes completion of a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at Duke University Health System, where significant involvement in governance as GME Resident Council Chair and co-chairing the GME Patient Safety & Quality Council was noted. Michael earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Duke University School of Medicine from 2004 to 2008 and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Georgia from 2000 to 2004.
