Tim McDonough

Vice Chancellor, Communications & Marketing at University System of Maryland

As the Vice Chancellor of Communications & Marketing for the University System of Maryland, Tim Mcdonough is responsible for the system-wide marketing and communications strategy. In their previous role as Vice President for Government and Public Affairs at the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges, they advocated on behalf of higher education institutions before Congress and the Administration.

Before that, they spent 18 years at the American Council on Education, where they served as Vice President, Communications and Marketing. In that role, they directed all aspects of ACE's communications, public affairs, and marketing activities.

Tim began their career in higher education at the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, where they served as Vice President for Public Affairs. Tim then moved to the University of Maryland at College Park, where they served in a variety of communications and development roles.

Throughout their career, Tim has been a champion for higher education and its role in society. Tim is a passionate advocate for access and affordability, and they have worked tirelessly to ensure that all students have the opportunity to pursue a college education.

Tim Mcdonough has a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Georgetown University and a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of Maryland.

They work with Peter Goodwin - Vice Chancellor, Environmental Sustainability, Nan Mulqueen - Director, Executive Communications, and Ellen Herbst - Vice Chancellor, Administration & Finance. Tim Mcdonough reports to Jay A. Perman, Chancellor.
