Textile Engineering Lead at unspun

Elizabeth Meiklejohn has a diverse range of work experience in the textile and design fields. Starting in 2012, they held various internships, including at Ralph Lauren and Tess Giberson, where they gained experience in womenswear and assisted with design and production tasks.

In 2013, Meiklejohn joined Levi Strauss & Co. as a Design Intern, where they facilitated the design and deployment of the Spring 2015 product line. Elizabeth later became an Assistant Designer for the Levi's brand, contributing to seasonal concepts, color and fabric stories, and assisting with CAD sketches and tech packs.

From 2014 to 2018, Meiklejohn continued to work at Levi Strauss & Co., first as an Assistant Designer for Global Product Innovation, participating in projects such as the Levi's x Google Jacquard collaboration and the Wellthread sustainable menswear collection. Elizabeth then became a Pier 9 Innovator-in-Residence at Autodesk, where they designed and fabricated garments using new methods and materials on behalf of Levi Strauss & Co.

In 2016, Meiklejohn joined the School of Visual Arts as the Manager of the Visible Futures Lab, where they advised students on textiles, CNC milling, and 3D printing and initiated research in creative digital fabrication. Elizabeth also held roles as a Prototyping Specialist and Lab Assistant during their time there.

Starting in 2020, Meiklejohn pursued their education at the Rhode Island School of Design, where they held the positions of Assistant Manager in the Co-Works Research Lab and Research Assistant in the Virtual Textiles Research Group. In these roles, they developed instructional materials, supervised lab operations, and trained students on digital fabrication equipment and software.

In 2021, Meiklejohn joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a Teaching Assistant and a Research Intern for fibers@MIT.

Most recently, in 2023, Meiklejohn became a Textile Engineer at unspun™, and they also served as an Experimental Weaver-in-Residence at the University of Colorado Boulder's Unstable Design Lab during their time there. In this role, they initiated independent and collaborative textile design and engineering projects, utilizing experimental techniques in weaving, knitting, and other textile fabrication areas to create fabrics with novel properties.

Overall, Meiklejohn's work experience showcases their expertise in textile design, digital fabrication, and innovation, as well as their ability to contribute to and lead various projects within the industry.

Elizabeth Meiklejohn earned their Bachelor's degree in Apparel Design from the Rhode Island School of Design from 2010 to 2014. Following this, they pursued a Master of Fine Arts - MFA degree specializing in Textiles from the same institution, which they completed between 2020 and 2022.
