Jim Waterreus has a diverse and extensive work experience in the engineering industry. Jim started their career at Hatch in 2007 as a Lead Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls Engineer. In 2008, they joined AECOM Australia Pty Ltd, where they held various roles, including Principal Electrical + I&C Engineer, Associate Director, and Manager of Electrical and I&C. Jim worked at AECOM for approximately 4.2 years. Jim then moved to BCEPM in 2016, where they worked as a Principal Electrical, Instrument and Controls Engineer until 2017. Following that, they joined Sedgman, a member of the CIMIC group, as the Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls Group Leader / Principal. Currently, they are working as the Chief Engineer at UON PTY LTD, a position they assumed in February 2021.
Jim Waterreus attended Hastings Boys High School from 1962 to 1968, where they received the Rhodes Cup for Science and was the runner up to Dux. During their time at high school, they focused on technical subjects, science, and mathematics, advancing to the level of advanced maths.
After completing high school, Jim went on to pursue a Bachelor's Degree at the University of Canterbury from 1968 to 1972. Jim'sdegree had a broad focus, specifically in the areas of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
In addition to their formal education, Jim Waterreus also obtained several certifications. In 2007, they obtained the RPEQ (Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland) and MIEAust (Member of Engineers Australia) certifications from the Queensland Government. More recently, in September 2020, they obtained the National Engineering Register certification from Engineers Australia.
