Joseph Shivers

Joseph Shivers is an Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at UPMC since August 2021, focusing on patients with neck and back issues through the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Program for Spine Health. Prior to this role, Joseph served as a Value-Based Fellow in Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine, and completed residency training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Colorado from July 2018 to June 2021. Joseph's medical journey began with an intern year in Internal Medicine at Northwell Health, followed by experience as a Clinical Research Assistant at Sansum Diabetes Research Institute, where involvement included designing and publishing clinical studies on diabetes technologies. Additionally, Joseph has a background in writing within the diabetes and obesity field, having contributed as a part-time writer and associate at Close Concerns from 2010 to 2017. Educational achievements include a medical degree from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (2013-2017) and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemical and Physical Biology from Harvard University (2006-2010).
