Matthew Hlavacek

Matthew Hlavacek is a computer scientist turned data scientist, currently serving as a Staff Research Scientist at Upstart, where they focus on machine learning for fraud detection and identity verification. Previously, they held roles at Uber as a Senior Applied Scientist and Applied Scientist, contributing to dispatch optimization and probabilistic modeling for Uber Eats. Matthew also gained experience as a Research Assistant at Microsoft Research, a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant at Columbia University, and a Computer Science Intern at the National Security Agency. They earned a Master of Science in Operations Research from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Northwestern University.
