Dr. Bachman has more than 20 years of experience in consulting and applied research in transportation, and health. He specializes in the application and development of innovative methods to measure and analyze the built environment and its impact on human mobility. Prior to UD4H, Dr. Bachman managed the Atlanta office for Westat and worked on a variety of transportation and health projects including system performance measurement, applications of emerging “big data”, community assessment, health geography, and state-level GIS support. Dr. Bachman also helped manage consulting services and geospatial projects/tasks for Geostats, a start-up company that changed the paradigm of travel behavior research and data collection by applying advanced technology such as GPS, web-based surveys, and smartphones. Prior to GeoStats, Dr. Bachman was a research scientist for Georgia Tech and conducted research into environmental hazards, travel behavior, air quality and taught graduate classes in GIS and transportation modeling. He lives in Atlanta and is a father of three, an avid trail runner, and promoter of physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
