Jose Medrano

Jose Medrano is a seasoned professional with significant experience in leadership and urban planning. Currently serving as Director at Urbane Development since March 2021, Medrano was also a participant in the 2020-2021 Coro Leadership New York program, which focuses on developing civic leadership skills for mid-career professionals. Previous roles include Analyst at Karp Strategies, GIS Consultant at ioby, Transit Development Intern at the New York City Department of Transportation, and GIS Fellow at the Pratt Center for Community Development. Medrano holds a Master’s Degree in City/Urban, Community and Regional Planning from Pratt Institute and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Psychology from The University of New Mexico.

Urbane Development (Urbane) is a community development venture and certified MBE based in New York City. Founded in 2008, Urbane cultivates innovative solutions to build dynamic neighborhoods and positively impact underserved communities. Since 2008, Urbane has worked with over100 urban and rural communities to develop solutions to entrenched challenges. The team has worked with over 1,500 small businesses, representing over 1.5 million square feet of commercial and community facility space. Urbane has helped raise over $75 million to help small business, commercial projects, and community development initiatives in low-income areas with the goal of promoting internal wealth generation. Urbane consults on projects throughout North America and co-develops mixed-use real estate in the New York City and Philadelphia Metro areas.
