Nathaniel Bavinton

Nathaniel Bavinton is an experienced urban professional with a focus on smart places and sustainability. Currently serving as Associate Director at Urbis since August 2022, Nathaniel contributes to developing strategies for smart and sustainable cities. Prior to this role, Nathaniel held the position of Innovation and Futures Manager at the City of Newcastle, where Nathaniel established a new service unit to integrate smart city capabilities with economic development and sustainability initiatives. Nathaniel's experience also includes roles such as Smart City Coordinator and Community Safety Facilitator with the City of Newcastle, Riverlights Festival Director at Maitland City Council, and various academic positions at Western Sydney University and the University of Newcastle. Nathaniel holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Sociology and Cultural Research from Western Sydney University and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Urban Sociology from the University of Newcastle.
