Deio Owen

Ymddiriedolwr / Trustee at Urdd Gobaith Cymru

Deio Owen currently serves as Llywydd NUS Cymru President at the National Union of Students (UK) since July 2024 and as a Young Trustee for Urdd Gobaith Cymru since December 2023. Previously, Deio held the position of Vice President for Welsh Language, Community and Culture at Cardiff Students' Union from July 2022 to June 2024, being the first individual to occupy this full-time role. Additionally, Deio has served as a Sabbatical Officer Trustee and as the Welsh Language Officer at Cardiff Students' Union. In the academic arena, Deio was a Trustee and Council Member at Cardiff University, representing the student body, and also taught Welsh in the Welsh for All programme. Educational background includes a degree in Welsh and Politics from Cardiff University (2020-2023) and earlier studies at Coleg Meirion Dwyfor and Ysgol Glan y Môr. Deio has also held the role of Students' Union President at Coleg Meirion Dwyfor, representing a large number of Further Education students across North Wales.

Mae Urdd Gobaith Cymru yn fudiad cyffrous a deinamig i blant a phobl ifanc sy'n darparu amrywiaeth o weithgareddau ar draws Cymru gyfan, gan gynnwys twrnameintiau chwaraeon, Eisteddfod yr Urdd, profiadau rhyngwladol a chyfleoedd i weithio ar brosiectau dyngarol. Mae 55,000 o blant a phobl ifanc Cymru rhwng 8 a 25 oed yn aelodau o’r Urdd bob blwyddyn, gan gynnwys 1/3 o holl siaradwyr Cymraeg rhwng 8 ac 18 oed, gyda 30% o holl aelodau yn dweud eu bod yn ddysgwyr. Urdd Gobaith Cymru is an exciting and dynamic organization for children and young people that provides a variety of activities across Wales, including sports tournaments, the Urdd Eisteddfod, international experiences and opportunities to work on humanitarian projects. The Urdd aims to provide opportunities for young people in Wales to live fulfilling lives through the medium of Welsh while learning to respect each other and the peoples of the world. Who are Urdd members? 55,000 children and young people aged 8-25 years in Wales are members every year, including 1/3 of all Welsh speakers between the ages of 8 and 18, with 30% of all members identifying as Welsh learners.
