Prior to this, Joanne Cooksey owned and managed Joanne's Sweet Memories Desserts and Catering from October 2007 to August 2017, focusing on the production and marketing of specialty desserts. Joanne Cooksey also held managerial positions at Dreams Resort/Sugar Bay Spa & Resort and Marriott Frenchman's Reef Hotel and Resort, where responsibilities included enhancing guest service and managing operational costs. Educational background includes studies at the University of the Virgin Islands and graduation from Charlotte Amalie High School.
