Chief Strategy Officer at U.S. Secret Service

Gregory W. Try serves as Chief Strategy Officer for the U.S. Secret Service. Mr. Try leads the Office of Strategic Planning and Policy (OSP), the organization’s internal strategic and analytical think tank. Mr. Try oversees activities including strategic planning, strategic futures analysis, emerging capabilities assessment, acquisition planning, enterprise analytics, performance measurement, enterprise governance and evaluation, policy management, records and knowledge management, and the agency’s multi-year financial planning efforts. Mr. Try also serves as part of the Director’s Enterprise Resource Board.

Before assuming his current position, Mr. Try served as the Deputy Chief Strategy Officer for Policy, Records, Analytics and Evaluations. In addition to overseeing those functions, Mr. Try also served as the chair of the Enterprise Governance Council, a board consisting of Deputy Assistant Directors and Deputy Executive Chiefs from across the Secret Service tasked with identifying and assessing agency-wide initiatives and developing recommendations for consideration by more senior leadership levels. As part of the original leadership team that stood up OSP in 2015, Mr. Try spearheaded efforts to establish and enhance the Secret Service’s abilities in the areas of strategy, emerging capabilities assessment, and multi-year financial planning.

For more than a decade with the Secret Service, Mr. Try has held various high-profile roles supporting executive-level decision-making, many of which involved interfacing with external stakeholders and partners. His efforts have included standing up multiple new divisions and units, such as a Strategic Futures Unit based on best practices from other national security partners.

Before joining the Secret Service, Mr. Try’s professional career included private sector roles in government affairs, association management, and management consulting.

Mr. Try holds a Master of Science and Technology Intelligence from the National Intelligence University, a Master of Business Administration from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, and a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Michigan.
