Juan Cortez has work experience in the field of environmental health and safety. Juan started working as an Environmental Health Safety Specialist at Total Safety in February 2020. In this role, they were responsible for tasks such as hot work permitting, cold work, confined space permits, air quality monitoring, and monitoring of VOCs, benzene, LEL, H2S, and O2 at the Chevron refinery in Pasadena. Prior to that, Juan worked as an Environmental Health Safety Specialist at USA DeBusk starting in October 2018. Before their role as a specialist, they worked as a Mechanic at Miller Environmental Services, LLC starting in August 2014.

Juan Cortez attended the College of the Mainland from 2013 to 2015, where they earned an Associate's degree in Safety Engineering. Additionally, they attended San Jacinto College from 2002 to 2004, earning an Associate's degree in Physical Sciences. In 1994, Juan studied Automotive Engineering Technology/Technician at the College of the Mainland.
