Cara Halldin is the Deputy Director and Supervisory Team Lead for the Coal Workers' Health Surveillance Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), where work includes monitoring respiratory diseases and conducting epidemiological research on lung function impairment among workers. Halldin previously served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer at the CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Educationally, Halldin holds a PhD in Biology with a focus on Disease Vector Ecology and Malaria from Case Western Reserve University, a Master’s in Public Health from West Virginia University, and a Bachelor’s in Biology and Chemistry from Bethany College. Prior to their work in public health, Halldin played a significant role in mosquito vector research and was a zoo educator at Oglebay Resort. Additionally, Halldin has been a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service since July 2011.
