Matthew Walters

Matthew Walters is an accomplished professional with extensive experience at the FDA since 2010, currently serving as the Deputy Division Director in the Division of Product Science, providing expertise in the chemistry of tobacco products. Previous roles at the FDA include Chemistry Branch Chief, Chemistry Team Lead, and Chemistry Reviewer, focusing on public health issues related to tobacco and guiding policy implementation under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. In addition, Matthew has served in various ranks within the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service since 2011. Academic credentials include a Master of Public Health from The Johns Hopkins University, a Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Chemical Biology from Duke University, and multiple undergraduate degrees from the College of Charleston in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Chemistry.
