J. Janell Cerva

J. Janell Cerva's work experience includes being the Chief Impact & Strategy Officer at Utah Community Action since 2022. Prior to that, they were a PhD Candidate in Educational Leadership & Policy at the University of Utah from 2019. From 2020 to 2022, they worked at United Way of Salt Lake as the Lead Network Director and Network Director. Before that, they were a Consultant at Sorenson Impact from 2018 to 2020. J. Janell held multiple positions at Salt Lake County from 2015 to 2018, including Director of Special Projects and Special Project Coordinator for Collective Impact on Homelessness. In 2017, they were the Executive Director at Shelter the Homeless. J. Janell worked as a Consultant at Education Direction in 2014 and as a Research Assistant at the University of Illinois at Chicago from 2013 to 2014. Their career began as a Research Assistant at the Center for Public Policy & Administration at the University of Utah from 2007 to 2010.

J. Janell Cerva has an extensive education history. J. Janell began their academic journey in 1997 and graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. During this time, they studied English and Political Science at Brigham Young University.

Continuing their pursuit of knowledge, Janell enrolled at the University of Utah in 2007. Over the span of two years, from 2007 to 2009, they obtained a Master's in Public Policy & Administration (MPA) with a focus on Public Policy & Administration.

Janell's journey towards higher education did not end there. In 2013, they attended the University of Illinois Chicago, where they embarked on a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education Policy. Their time at this institution lasted until 2014, further enriching their academic knowledge and providing a deeper understanding of education policy.

Finally, Janell returned to the University of Utah in 2015 to pursue their ultimate educational goal. Over the course of six years, they dedicated herself to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Educational Leadership & Policy, which they completed in 2021. This comprehensive program equipped their with expertise in educational leadership and policy, making their well-prepared to navigate and shape the field.

Throughout their education, Janell Cerva has embarked on various academic paths, accumulating valuable knowledge and skills in the fields of English, Political Science, Public Policy & Administration, Education Policy, and Educational Leadership & Policy.
