Rafael Normey is an Electrical Engineer, graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at the Universidad de la República in Montevideo, Uruguay. Currently, they serve as the Deputy Manager of Control Engineering at UTE, overseeing engineering developments, installation, and maintenance of automation and control systems for all transmission substations in the country. With 25 years of experience in automation, control, and telecontrol of electric substations, Rafael has led the digitalization processes for transmission substations over the past 16 years, implementing the IEC 61850 standard in 52 substations. They have extensive teaching experience and currently teach automation and IEC 61850 courses through various institutions, including Electromagazine and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
