UTMB School of Nursing
The highly-ranked UTMB School of Nursing is part of a University of Texas academic-medical institution with more than 13,800 employees, including 970 faculty members. UTMB SON offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree in both our Traditional Program (four consecutive semesters) and the two-semester RN-BSN Program designed for nurses already prepared at the Associate degree level. Our graduates average a 99 percent pass rate on the RN licensing exam, and more than 90 percent of our BSN students secure jobs in nursing in the state of Texas upon graduation. Our online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree program consists of seven different specialty tracks for students wanting to advance their careers. We also offer two doctoral degrees that prepare graduates to improve patient care, influence healthcare policy and advance knowledge through translational research: the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program (DNP) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD). Where do our nursing graduates work? Everywhere. We are proud to have more than 14,000 alumni all over the U.S. and abroad who play an active role our school’s success. For more than 130 years, UTMB SON has given its students the very best opportunity to become the very best nursing professionals they can be. Yes, UTMB SON is proud to claim the distinction of being the first nursing school in Texas and the first in the U.S. west of the Mississippi, but we are equally proud that we have always focused on the future. An outstanding nursing education is the foundation for another generation of outstanding nursing professionals who never miss an opportunity to grow professionally, master new technologies, and give patients hope.
