Laurine Platzky has a diverse work experience starting from 1980. Laurine worked as a National Coordinator for the Surplus People Project and National Committee Against Removals, where they focused on documenting and publicizing apartheid's forced removals. After that, they served in various roles in the South African Government as Chief Director level and then joined the Western Cape Government in 1999. In their role as Deputy Director General, they were responsible for policy and strategy, international relations, human rights, transversal policy and strategy, and various community and development initiatives. Currently, they are working at the University of the Western Cape as the Director of Strategic Projects.
Laurine Platzky earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Regional Development from the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) of Erasmus University Rotterdam from 1988 to 1995. Prior to that, they obtained a Master's degree in City/Urban, Community and Regional Planning from the University of Cape Town in 1976. Laurine'sundergraduate education includes a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), B Soc Science, Masters (City and Regional Planning) from the University of Cape Town from 1971 to 1976. Laurine completed their matriculation at St Cyprians School in Cape Town from 1961 to 1970.
