Lorenzo Ciccarelli

Principal Research Engineer at V-Nova Ltd.

Lorenzo Ciccarelli has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of technology and video coding. Lorenzo currently serves as a Principal Research Engineer at V-Nova Ltd. since March 2018. Prior to that, they worked at the BBC as a Senior Software Engineer from November 2016 to March 2018.

Before joining the BBC, Lorenzo was associated with Xylostream Technology as a Principal Algorithm Engineer from January 2014 to November 2016. In this role, they were a Technical Project Leader, involved in the development and implementation of the HEVC 4K resolution software model. Lorenzo also played a crucial role in porting the model into hardware (FPGA) to achieve real-time implementation of the first 4K 10bit 60fps single tile HEVC broadcast encoder.

From November 2008 to January 2014, Lorenzo worked at Evertz as a Senior Design Engineer and Project Leader. Lorenzo specialized in video codec architectural IP design on FPGA, DSPs, and x86 for video broadcasting systems. Notably, they developed a high-definition 1080p @ 60 fps video decoder and optimized HD/SD video coding algorithms.

Prior to Evertz, Lorenzo worked at Ericsson as a Senior DSP Engineer from September 2006 to November 2008. Their responsibilities included designing and optimizing video codec architectures on multi-DSP platforms and mixed FPGA architectures. Lorenzo also developed and optimized bitrate control algorithms for TV and IPTV encoder systems.

Lorenzo's career began at Aethra in 1998, where they served as a DSP Engineer and later became the Video Codec Group Manager. Lorenzo focused on developing video coding algorithms for various standards such as H.261, H.263, and H.264.

Overall, Lorenzo Ciccarelli has showcased their expertise in video coding, project leadership, and algorithm development throughout their career.

Lorenzo Ciccarelli earned a Master's degree in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering from Università Politecnica delle Marche. Lorenzo studied at the university from 1991 to 1998.
