Richard Cunningham, MD is a board-certified and fellowship-trained specialist in knee, shoulder, and sports medicine, currently serving as the Managing Partner at Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery since 2003. With extensive experience, Dr. Cunningham completed an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at UPMC, where involvement included training in knee and shoulder arthroscopy, research, and roles as team physician for Division I university teams, as well as assistant team physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins. An orthopedic resident at the University of Utah School of Medicine, Dr. Cunningham trained across various orthopedic subspecialties, performing over 1,000 surgeries and contributing to the Tenure Review and Curriculum Committees. Dr. Cunningham began medical education at the University of Washington, earning a Doctor of Medicine degree after completing a Bachelor of Arts in English at Amherst College.
