Joe Smetana

Joe Smetana has over 30 years of work experience in the field of engineering and software development. Joe currently holds the position of Senior Technical Director at Vail Systems since 2016. Prior to that, they worked as the Head of LTE eNB Software Development at Nokia Networks from 2011 to 2015. At Motorola Solutions, where they worked from 1990 to 2011, they held various positions and eventually became the Director of Engineering for Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Product Systems Engineering. Before that, they worked as a Software Engineer at Dytel from 1988 to 1990 and as a Research Scientist at Dukane Corporation from 1987 to 1988. Joe began their career as a Software Engineer at Northrop Grumman Corporation from 1985 to 1987.

Joe Smetana obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology, from 1986 to 1990. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science from the University of Illinois Chicago, from 1980 to 1984. In addition to their formal education, Joe has also obtained certifications in Lean Six Sigma Green Belt from the Chicago Deming Association in March 2016, and as a Certified Scrum Master from the Scrum Alliance in February 2016.
