Douglas Tamura

Vice-Chair, Department of Surgery at Valley Children's Healthcare

Board certified by the American Board of Surgery in pediatric surgery, Dr. Douglas Tamura joined Valley Children’s as a pediatric surgeon in August 2003. His areas of interest include minimally invasive surgery, neonatal surgery and pediatric trauma. Dr. Tamura is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Pediatric Surgery Association, International Pediatric Endosurgery Group, and Society of Critical Care Medicine.

He has published in several journals including The Journal of Trauma: Injury Infection and Critical Care; Shock; and Surgery.

Dr. Tamura received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his residency in general surgery and research fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. Dr. Tamura completed a fellowship in surgical critical care/ trauma at the University of California, Davis Medical Center and a pediatric surgery fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine. He spent two years as a trauma research fellow focused mainly on the inflammatory response mechanisms from traumatic injury.
