Jay Xu

Jay Xu is the current V.P. Technology at Valtris. Jay has over fifteen years of experience in designing new specialty composite materials. Prior to joining Valtris, Jay was the Director of Technology at Laird from July 2016 to December 2017. At Laird, Jay led a team that designed new specialty composite materials with high thermal conductivity and/or EMI shielding functions.

Before Laird, Jay worked at PolyOne as the Senior Technology Manager from November 2012 to July 2016 where they specialized in designing new polymer formulations to meet customers' unmet needs for new applications. Jay and their team would design polymer solutions to achieve new functions such as electrical and thermal conductivity, EMI shielding, flame retardancy, specific gravity, transparency, radiopacity, antimicrobial property, mechanical properties, and more. These polymer solutions would then be applied to various markets such as appliance, automotive, electronic, healthcare, industrial, wire and cable, and more.

At PolyOne, Jay also established and managed market oriented research projects based on stage gate type of process. Jay would prioritize customization projects based on business potential and technical feasibility. In addition, Jay engaged key customers and suppliers to build trust and collaboration for innovative solutions. To top it off, Jay collaborated with key regulatory agencies such as UL/CSA/NSF to gain proper approvals for customers’ target applications. Lastly, Jay constructed a global software system to store, organize, and manage data like formulations, processing conditions, and properties - unifying all the silos into one platform and giving easy access of already accumulated knowledge for future projects.

Through their hard work and dedication over the years, Jay has become an expert in their field and is highly respected by their peers. Jay's experience and expertise have been invaluable to the companies they have worked for and they continue to be a driving force in the development of new composite materials.

Jay Xu has an IRI from Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management, a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech, and a BA & MS from Nanjing University.
