Dr. Joan Hunter enjoys working with patients to help them take control of their health. She finds it rewarding to watch small changes lead to better wellness in the people she cares for. She believes practicing gratitude—taking time to recognize and appreciate the things one is thankful for—can promote physical and mental health. She encourages patients to focus on the positives in their lives.
Dr. Hunter has a special interest in women’s health, preventative medicine, and palliative care. Through the Transitional Care Clinic, she has been honored to support patients and families as they go through challenging health events.
Dr. Hunter was born and raised outside of New Orleans, Louisiana. She completed medical school at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. She moved to the Northwest for her internal medicine residency at Oregon Health & Science University and has lived in Portland, Oregon, ever since.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Hunter loves spending time with her two young children and traveling and wine tasting with her husband. She enjoys eating good food and hearing New Orleans musicians when they come to the area.
