Al Zwiers

Al Zwiers is a seasoned social work professional with extensive experience in mental health, addiction counseling, and employee wellness. Currently serving as the Manager of People Wellness at Vancouver Coastal Health since August 1999, Al Zwiers oversees wellness initiatives supporting over 30,000 staff, focusing on employee counseling, critical incident response, and work-life wellness services. Prior roles include managing clinical services for VCH employees, supervising withdrawal management services, and providing clinical supervision to addiction and mental health teams. As the owner of ah-ha! Counselling & Consulting, Al Zwiers specializes in addictions, relationships, and self-acceptance. Al Zwiers has taught counselling skills and anti-oppression courses at Vancouver Community College and has coordinated educational services for non-profit organizations focused on HIV/AIDS awareness. Al Zwiers holds a Master of Social Work from Carleton University and multiple undergraduate degrees.
