Maryn Ashdown

Director, Neighbourhood & Youth Services at Vancouver Public Library

Maryn joined the VPL leadership team as Director of Neighbourhood & Youth Services in 2022, after three years in the Associate Director portfolio. Before this, Maryn worked in diverse portfolios, including Director of Customer Experiences at the Coquitlam Public Library, and Coordinator, Programs and Youth Services for the Port Moody Public Library.

In her current role, Maryn leads strategic direction and policy and resource allocation for 20 neighbourhood branches, and city-wide services for children and teens. She also supports strategic planning and development of new and renewed library spaces.

Maryn is a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration holder, and a current MBA candidate (2024) through SFU’s Beedie School of Business. She sits on their graduate mentorship committee, and is a past instructor for the University of the Fraser Valley’s Library and Information Technology program. She is an active member of the BC Library Association, and the Public Library Association, a division of the American Library Association. Maryn holds a Masters of Library and Information Technology from UBC, 2005, and is working towards a Certificate in Public Library Leadership through the University of Toronto.
