Terrell Smith is an experienced healthcare professional with a strong background in patient and family engagement. Currently serving as the Director of Patient and Family Engagement at Vanderbilt University since July 2004, Terrell acts as an internal thought leader and consultant, enhancing collaboration between patients, families, and the healthcare delivery continuum. Notably, Terrell founded a Patient/Family Advisory Council for Vanderbilt University Hospital and Clinics. Previously, Terrell held the role of Administrative Director at Vanderbilt University Medical Center from July 1992 to March 2005, overseeing a 160-bed Children’s Hospital and leading the planning for its new facility. Terrell's experience also includes serving as Assistant Director of Nursing at Ochsner Health System from January 1988 to May 1992, managing a large staff across 205 inpatient beds. Terrell holds a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Samford University.
