Derek Thielmann

Derek Thielmann has a diverse work experience in the aviation and engineering sectors. Derek is currently serving as the Vice President of Design and Construction at Vantage Airport Group, where they oversee large-scale capital projects in the aviation sector, including the award-winning Terminal B at LaGuardia Airport and Terminal 6 at JFK International. Prior to this, Derek worked as a Senior Director of Project and Construction Management, leading the planning and construction of capital projects across the Vantage Network.

Before joining Vantage Airport Group, Derek served as the Director of Engineering Projects at Vancouver Airport Authority, where they played a key role in managing engineering projects. Derek was responsible for the successful delivery of the Lynden Pindling International Airport Expansion Project as a Project Director at Vantage Airport Group/Nassau Airport Development Company, overseeing terminal construction, baggage systems, IT infrastructure, and security.

Derek also gained extensive experience at Vancouver International Airport Authority, where they worked as a Manager and Project Manager/Project Engineer. In these roles, they provided guidance on airside initiatives and managed various multi-million dollar aviation and utility projects.

Earlier in their career, Derek worked as a Junior Geotechnical Engineer at Klohn Crippen Consultants, supervising the installation of piles and stone columns for pulp and paper mill expansions and airport projects.
