Jeffrey Collins

Senior FPGA Engineer at Vector Atomic

Jeffrey Collins has over 20 years of work experience in the electronics engineering field. Jeffrey began their career in 2000 as a Hardware Engineer at ArrayComm, where they designed Altera FPGAs in VHDL for high-speed serializer/de-serializer to connect PowerPC chips to 12 Motorola 563xx DSPs. Jeffrey also made board level schematic updates and improvements to modem boards for 1 megabit-per-second wireless Internet service basestation reference designs. In 2002, they joined Lawrence Livermore National Security and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a Sr. Electronics Engineer, where they worked on board level design using Orcad Capture CIS schematic design and Orcad Layout PCB layout tools, as well as FPGA code development using Modelsim simulator and Synplicity Synplify Verilog & VHDL synthesis tool. Jeffrey then moved to XIA LLC in 2008 as a Senior Staff Engineer, where they worked on UltraLo 1800, MicroComU, and Microcalorimeter projects. In 2012, they joined Triple Ring Technologies as a Senior Staff Engineer and Team Lead, where they wrote board level specifications and design documents to support an infrared spectrometer project and a cardiac monitor project. In 2016, they joined Omron Adept Technologies as a Senior Electrical Engineer, where they developed Verilog code for redundant Altera MAX V CPLDs to control the LIDAR safety zones for a prototype large mobile robot. In 2017, they joined ATONARP INC as a Senior Staff Electrical Engineer, where they re-designed an ARM system-on-module motherboard. Finally, in 2019, they joined AEye, Inc. as a Senior Staff FPGA Engineer, where they wrote embedded C++ code targeting an ARM microcontroller and developed SystemVerilog code targeting Ultrascale+ Zynq. Jeffrey is currently working as a Senior FPGA Engineer at Vector Atomic.

Jeffrey Collins attended Moreau High School from 1986 to 1990. Jeffrey then went on to the University of California, Davis, where they obtained a BS in Computer Engineering from 1990 to 1995. Jeffrey also pursued an MS in Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Davis, but did not complete it before 2006.
