Masaaki Yana has worked in various roles over the past 30 years. In 1991, they began their career at Analog Devices as a Marketing and Application Engineer and Product Line Engineer. In 2004, they moved on to the Illinois Institute of Technology, Rice Campus, where they served as a Help Desk & Teaching Assistant for VoIP lab. In 2006, they worked as an Engineering Researcher for Neon Software and an Assistant System Administrator for Tom Sawyer Software. Masaaki then joined Barracuda Networks in 2008 as a Technical Support Engineer, followed by Imperva in 2009 as a Technical Support Engineer. In 2010, they joined Splunk as a Support Engineer and then Kong Inc. in 2020 as a Sr. Customer Reliability Engineer. Most recently, they began working at Redpanda Data in 2022 as a Customer Support Engineer.

Masaaki Yana has an extensive education history. Masaaki obtained their B.S. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Tokyo City University in 1989-1991, followed by a Master in Information Technology and Management from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2003-2005. In 2019-2020, they attended Kickstart Coding to study Full-stack web development (Python/Django, Javascript/React, node.js). Additionally, they have obtained several certifications, including an edX Verified Certificate for Introduction to Service Mesh with Linkerd in November 2020, a Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) in 2006, CompTIA Security+ in 2005, Sun Certified Security Administrator for the Solaris Operating System in 2005, CompTIA Network+ in 2004, Sun Certified Network Administrator for the Solaris Operating System in 2004, Sun Certified System Administrator for the Solaris Operating System in 2004, CompTIA A+ in 2003, a Certified Kubernetes Administrator from The Linux Foundation in August 2020, and a Cisco Certified Network Associate Routing and Switching (CCNA) in 2003.
