Betsy Bloomer currently serves as the Director of Communications and Strategy at Vermont Electric Power Company (VELCO), a position held since January 2019. Prior experience includes leadership roles at Green Mountain Power, where Betsy worked from June 2013 to January 2019, and served as the Executive Director of the Vermont Disaster Relief Fund from January 2012 to May 2013. Additional experience encompasses involvement in the Hurricane Irene Recovery Office for the State of Vermont and a tenure as Vice President at Cassidy & Associates from September 2003 to July 2011. Betsy began their career as a Legislative Assistant to Congressman John E. Sweeney from August 2000 to August 2003. Educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Skidmore College, completed in 2000, along with a diploma from Saint Johnsbury Academy, obtained in 1996.

Vermont Electric Power Company (VELCO) is Vermont’s statewide electric transmission provider whose sights are set on creating a sustainable Vermont through our people, assets, relationships and operating model. Formed in 1956 when local Vermont utilities established the nation’s first “transmission only” company to access clean hydro power from New York, VELCO remains unique in two important ways: 1. our ownership comprises the state’s 17 distribution utilities and a public benefits corporation; and, 2. our for-profit status is structured to return cooperative-like value to our owners, their customers, and every Vermonter.
