Co-Founder, Head Strategy & Partnerships at Velocia

Eldredge Bermingham has had a diverse and extensive work experience. Eldredge currently holds the position of Co-Founder and Head of Strategy & Partnerships at Velocia, a role they have held since January 2019. Eldredge also briefly served as the Head of Strategic Partnerships at Velocia during the same time period.

Prior to their current role, Eldredge worked as a Sabbatic Nomad at the Fastrack Institute starting in July 2017. During this time, they focused on researching and writing about cities, particularly Miami, and its economic potential in relation to Latin America and the Caribbean.

Before their work with the Fastrack Institute, Eldredge was the Chief Science Officer at the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science, starting in 2014. Eldredge was responsible for overseeing the science department and played a key role in the construction of a new museum. Eldredge believed in the potential influence of linking art and science together to impact society.

Eldredge's career at the Smithsonian Institution spanned 25 years. Eldredge held various positions, including Senior Scientist and Director of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) in Panama. As Director of STRI, Eldredge managed a significant budget, supervised a large staff, and focused on increasing understanding of tropical biodiversity and its relevance to human welfare. Eldredge also conducted extensive research on evolutionary genetics and the geographical expansion of animal and plant ranges following the rise of the Isthmus of Panama.

Eldredge began their career as a Staff Biologist at the Smithsonian Institution in 1988. Eldredge briefly returned to Cornell University to work as a Sloan Postdoctoral Fellow, focusing on Drosophila research with Chip Aquadro.

Overall, Eldredge Bermingham has a wealth of experience in scientific research, partnership development, and strategic planning, with a particular interest in the fields of tropical biodiversity and urban development.

Eldredge Bermingham completed their high school education at The Taft School from 1967 to 1971, where they focused on their studies in life, soccer, and lacrosse. Eldredge then pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Biology at Cornell University from 1973 to 1977. Following their undergraduate studies, they attended Bowdoin College from 1971 to 1973, where they studied English Language and Literature/Letters. Lastly, Eldredge attended The University of Georgia from 1982 to 1986, earning a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Genetics.
