Sun News Media
Sun Coast Media Group, Inc. is the premier news source for Southwest Florida. We publish the area's No. 1 news site, Yoursun.com, print The Daily Sun, a newspaper covering Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Englewood and North Port and the Venice Gondolier, a twice-weekly newspaper in South Sarasota County. We also publish Water Line, Harbor Style, Venice Style, and Welcome Home magazines, and print and distribute Sun Weekly, a free publication. An unrivaled media brand, SCMG has paid circulation and distribution in all major local outlets and is the only daily home-delivered newspaper covering all of our area. Founded in 1977 by Derek Dunn-Rankin, Sun Coast Media Group began in rented office space using subcontracted printers. He quickly acquired the Venice Gondolier, the Advertiser in Venice, the Englewood Times and North Port Times, and the Charlotte Sun. By 1985, the company owned its buildings and printing presses in Venice and Port Charlotte. In 1987, the Charlotte Sun began publishing seven days a week and rapidly overtook its competition in both advertising sales and paid circulation. In 1989, the assets of the Charlotte Herald-News were purchased and the Englewood and North Port publications were incorporated into the daily newspaper, creating one of the fastest growing dailies in the country. Today, Sun Coast Media Group is part of Adams Publishing Group, a family-owned community newspaper company consisting of 37 daily newspapers, 90 non-daily newspapers, and a number of other media-related businesses in 20 states and the District of Columbia.
