Mike Jennings

Lead Electronics Engineer at Verlume

Mike Jennings has extensive work experience in the field of engineering and design. Mike started their career as an Instrumentation Craftsman at Scottish Hydro-Electric in 1989, followed by a role as an Instrumentation Technician at Thomas Taits & Sons Ltd in 1990. Mike then worked as an Electronics Technician at Sperry Sun Drilling Services from 1995 to 1997, where they were responsible for outfitting logging cabins and repairing logging equipment.

In 1997, Mike joined Simrad as an Electronics Service Engineer before transitioning to Kongsberg Maritime in 1998. At Kongsberg Maritime, they worked as a Principal Electronic Design Engineer and Engineering Supervisor, managing projects related to harsh environment video equipment and systems. Mike supervised a team of electronic, mechanical, and software engineers.

In 2013, Mike joined Online Electronics Ltd. as a Senior Design Engineer, where they worked until 2020. Mike then became self-employed as Director of Jennings Design Solutions Ltd, providing senior electronic design engineering services on various projects, such as assisting clients with PCB designs and multi-sensor instruments.

In 2021, Mike joined EC-OG as a Senior Engineer, where they provided electrical and electronic design and manufacturing assistance for the development of the HALO subsea Intelligent Energy Management and Storage System. In 2022, EC-OG became Verlume, and Mike continued their role as a Senior Engineer.

Aside from their professional career, Mike also served as a Community Council Member at Ellon Community Council from 2017 to 2022.

Mike Jennings attended The Open University from 1998 to 2004, where they pursued a degree in Computers in Science and Industry. Prior to that, they studied Electronics & Information Engineering at Robert Gordon University from 1991 to 1995. In addition to their formal education, Mike has obtained certifications in IPC-A-600 Acceptability of Printed Circuit Boards and IPC J-STD-001 Reequipments for Soldering Electrical and Electronic Assemblies from IPC in April and May of 2023, respectively.
