Vernon Area Public Library
Sarah Okner currently serves as the Youth and School Services Librarian at Vernon Area Public Library District, a position held since May 2012, where responsibilities include providing customer service and reader's advisory to children and teens and facilitating programs for youth. In addition, Sarah is a self-employed lecturer, presenting the program "Life in a Japanese American Internment Camp" to various community organizations. Previous library positions include Youth Services Librarian at Three Rivers Public Library District and Teen Librarian at Henderson Libraries. Educational credentials include a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science and a Bachelor's Degree in History with minors in Asian American Studies and Sociology, both from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

The Vernon Area Public Library District directly serves the 44,002 residents of a 29-square mile area that includes all or parts of Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Vernon Hills, Prairie View, Riverwoods and unincorporated Ela and Vernon townships. In addition to access to books, movies and music, the library provides free classes and performances, free Wi-Fi and internet access, on-demand and downloadable music, movies, audiobooks, and e-books, and specialized research services.
