Jaap Smit

Jaap Smit is an experienced leader currently serving as President of the Oorlogsgravenstichting and Chairman of the Advies en Arbitrage Commissie Rijksoverheid since November 2021. Smit has held the position of Chairman for the Nationaal comité Nederlandse Veteranendag since April 2017, overseeing the annual Dutch Veteran's Day event. Additional roles include Chairman of CIO, the representative body of 31 church denominations, and Chairman of the Raad van Toezicht at the Verwey-Jonker Instituut. Smit also serves as Chairman of the Stichting Vliegramp MH17 advisory council and is the Chairman of IPO interprovinciaal Overleg, representing the interests of the twelve provinces in the Netherlands. As the Commissaris van de Koning for Provincie Zuid-Holland, Smit is responsible for regional governance and the appointment of mayors. Smit's academic credentials include a Master of Science in Theology from Leiden University and a certificate from INSEAD's International Executive Program.
