Albert Mondragon

Scientist II at Vesalius Therapeutics

Albert Mondragon's work experience begins with their current position as a Scientist II at Vesalius Therapeutics, where they serve as an R&D Project co-leader for a cross-functional drug development team focusing on neurodegeneration. In this role, they lead project team meetings, generates standard operating procedures, and collaborates on optimized secondary assays.

Prior to their current role, Albert worked as a Scientist at Sigilon Therapeutics, Inc. Their responsibilities included supporting the development of new indications and pipeline programs for cell therapy. Albert led in vitro and in vivo studies targeting lysosomal storage disorders, established new CNS assays, and served as the scientific lead on a business development collaboration.

Before joining Sigilon Therapeutics, Albert was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Biogen, where they worked on an investigative toxicology project focused on ASO-Associated lysosomal changes. Albert characterized lysosome function, co-led a collaboration for lipidomics and proteomics support, and developed cell-based assays.

Albert's earlier experience includes their time as a PhD candidate at Boston University, where their research focused on the molecular signaling responsible for initiating non-cell autonomous death. Albert specifically studied the role of lysosome proteins and engulfment machinery in phagoptosis.

Albert's work experience began as a Research Assistant at The University of Texas at San Antonio, where they investigated the role of estrogen on the retinal microvasculature and the molecular mechanisms responsible for retinal degeneration in diabetic retinopathy. Albert also discovered a novel role for the pro-apoptotic protein, BIGH3, in initiating cell death.

Albert Mondragon attended Del Mar College from 2007 to 2008, where they obtained an Emergency Medical Technician Certification in Biology, General. Albert then pursued their Bachelor's Degree at The University of Texas at San Antonio from 2008 to 2012. Albert completed their Bachelor's Degree with Highest Honors, focusing on a concentration in Neurobiology. Albert furthered their education at Boston University from 2012 to 2018, earning a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Cellular and Molecular Biology.
