Jan Steyaert

Jan Steyaert is an accomplished researcher and educator in the field of structural biology, currently serving as an ERC Investigator with the European Research Council since June 2024. As the Director of the VIB-VUB center of Structural Biology since January 2017 and the Director of the Structural Biology department at Vrije Universiteit Brussel since January 1995, Jan has contributed significantly to the understanding of protein function and structure. Jan co-founded Confo Therapeutics in June 2015, focusing on drug discovery utilizing proprietary technology for GPCRs. Additionally, Jan has been a groupleader at VIB since January 1998, exploring nanobody applications in protein structure determination. Jan has held various prominent positions throughout a distinguished career, including roles at AgroSavfe NV, Ablynx, and the International Livestock Research Institute. Jan completed a PhD and Master of Science in Bioengineering Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Brussel between 1982 and 1987.
