Derek Young

Derek is a forest ecologist and data scientist. He brings over 10 years of experience as a university researcher studying forest disturbance and recovery, evaluating management interventions such as forest thinning and tree planting, and developing new methods for forest mapping using drones and computer vision. At Vibrant Planet he is working to incorporate the best available science, data, and analytical techniques to support forest management decision-making. Derek also maintains an active forest ecology research program at the University of California, Davis.
