Michael Koontz

Lead Scientist: Ecosystem Monitoring and Forecasting at Vibrant Planet

Michael Koontz has an extensive work experience spanning over several years. Michael began their career as a Field Leader for the Hawksbill Turtle Recovery Project in 2007. Michael then worked as a Biological Research Technician for the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii from 2009 to 2011. After that, they served as a Biological Research Technician at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2011.

In 2012, Michael joined UC Merced as a Research Technician, where they collected seedling demography data for the Alpine-Treeline Warming Experiment. Michael conducted surveys at high altitude sites to study the impact of rising temperatures on seedling establishment for various tree species.

Michael later joined Colorado State University in 2012 as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Their research focused on understanding the success of populations introduced into novel habitats.
