David 'Ed' Edwards

David 'Ed' Edwards has a diverse and extensive work experience in various roles. David 'Ed' is currently serving as a VFX Product Manager at Vicon, where they oversee the direction and delivery of major software and hardware products for motion capture users in games, VFX, and Virtual Production.

Prior to their current role, David worked as a Visual Design Specialist at their own company, David 'Ed' Edwards - www.dgedwards.com, since 2007. As a freelance Visual Designer, they created content including UX, UI, illustration, web, and games, to ensure exposure to diverse technical and creative challenges.

From 2016 to 2021, David held two roles at Staffordshire University. David 'Ed' served as a Technical Specialist for Visualisation and Simulation, responsible for managing and teaching specialist visualization equipment and practices. Additionally, they worked as a Technical Specialist and Educator for Videogames, providing technical support and instruction to over 1,500 Games and Visual Effects students.

David also has experience as a Program Manager at the Dyer Island Conservation Trust, where they oversaw the design, development, and implementation of an academic and practical skills-based training program in marine wildlife research. David 'Ed' was responsible for the ongoing development and marketing of the Academy's curriculum.

Before that, David founded EDNA, a creative agency in South Africa focused on "Design for Wildlife," and worked as a Designer and Marine Research Assistant at Dyer Island Conservation Trust. David 'Ed' also worked at Oceans Research, where they served as a Design and Program Manager, developing protocols and procedures for a marine lab and working with National Geographic and Channel 4. David 'Ed' also held the role of Multimedia Manager at Oceans Research, responsible for branding, marketing materials, and videos.

David's early work experience includes a role as a Junior Designer at Sureshots Fancy Dress, where they created websites with engaging characters and colorful designs.

David 'Ed' Edwards has a comprehensive education history spanning multiple institutions and fields of study. David 'Ed' began their tertiary education at Buxton & Leek College from 2001 to 2003, where they pursued AVCE Art and design and AS Level IT, specializing in the field of Art and design. Following this, Edwards enrolled at Staffordshire University from 2003 to 2006, earning a BA(Hons) in Multimedia Graphics. During this time, they focused on interactive environments within the discipline of their degree. Lastly, Edwards returned to Staffordshire University in 2020, undertaking a Master of Research - MRes in Computer Science, which they completed in 2022.
