Alan Amaral has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. Alan began their career as a Software Engineer at Raster Technologies in 1987. Alan then moved on to Alliant Computer in 1988, where they worked as a Graphics Software Engineer, responsible for designing and implementing various products. At Sun Microsystems, they served as a Software Engineer and was primarily involved in the architecture, design, and implementation of the SunPCi product. Alan achieved exceptional results during their time at Sun Microsystems, receiving a bonus of 110% for the product.
In 2005, Amaral joined Bose Corporation as a Software Architect, where they played a crucial role in ground-up software architecture, research, design, and implementation of a new product called the Bose VideoWave System. Alan then transitioned to Virtual Computer, Inc in 2009, working as a Staff Software Engineer for the NxTop product. Amaral was responsible for transforming the user experience and perception of the product's user interface, making it more robust, flexible, and user-friendly.
At Citrix Systems, they worked as a Staff Software Engineer from 2012 to 2017, with their main focus being the architecture and maintenance of the PVS for Linux product. Amaral successfully designed and implemented the user-mode PVS Virtual Disk Driver, which allowed for remote streaming of VHD files.
In 2018, they joined Jibo, Inc. as a Principal Software Engineer. During their time there, Amaral implemented various functionalities for the Jibo Personal Robot, including reading temperature sensors and displaying collected data in real-time through a website. Alan also solved a significant issue with the GNU Arm toolchain, improving the GDB debugger's stack trace functionality. Most recently, they have been working as a Software Development Engineer at VideoLink LLC since 2018.
Alan Amaral attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute from 1977 to 1981, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.
