Punyabrata Basak has a rich and diverse work experience spanning various roles and responsibilities. Prior to that, they worked as a Visiting Professor in Civil Engineering at the National Institute of Technology in Jamshedpur, India from 2014 onwards.

Punyabrata Basak completed their education in a chronological order. Punyabrata first attended Jadavpur University from 1961 to 1965, where they obtained their B.C.E. degree in Civil Engineering. Punyabrata then pursued further studies at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur from 1969 to 1973. During this time, they earned an M.Tech and PhD in Geotechnical Engineering and Flow through porous media. Afterward, in 1973, they conducted research as a Ford Foundation Fellow at M.I.T, USA, focusing on Flow through Porous Media.
