Punyabrata Basak

Punyabrata Basak has a rich and diverse work experience spanning various roles and responsibilities. Punyabrata'smost recent position was as the Director General at Vidya Knowledge Park India, which they have held since 2016. Prior to that, they worked as a Visiting Professor in Civil Engineering at the National Institute of Technology in Jamshedpur, India from 2014 onwards.

Basak also served as an Advisor and Visiting Professor at Don Bosco Institute of Management from 2009 to 2010. Prior to that, they worked as the Chief Scientific Advisor at BJS, Pune, where they conceived and prepared a detailed project report for the establishment of an International Institute of Disaster Management.

In the early years of their career, Basak was the Director & Principal at Amal Jyothi College of Engineering from 2001 to 2003. Punyabrata also served as the Executive Director at the Center for Water Resources Dev. & Mgt (CWRDM) from 1987 to 2001. During their tenure, the institute became one of the largest water research institutes in the world, with various prestigious recognitions.

Basak's involvement in the field of water management extends beyond CWRDM. Punyabrata also worked as a National Consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission, Govt. of India from 1994 to 1996.

Furthermore, Basak has experience in the academic sector, having served as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Kerala Agricultural University from 1985 to 1987. Punyabrata played a significant role in the establishment and development of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, overseeing the planning, recruitment, and administration of the new engineering college.

Punyabrata Basak completed their education in a chronological order. Punyabrata first attended Jadavpur University from 1961 to 1965, where they obtained their B.C.E. degree in Civil Engineering. Punyabrata then pursued further studies at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur from 1969 to 1973. During this time, they earned an M.Tech and PhD in Geotechnical Engineering and Flow through porous media. Afterward, in 1973, they conducted research as a Ford Foundation Fellow at M.I.T, USA, focusing on Flow through Porous Media.
